Emperor Angelfish of the Solitary Islands Marine Park

Scientific Name: Pomacanthus imperator

We have watched our very own Emperor Angelfish grow up at South Solitary Island!

The first photo shows one of our Adults we have around South Solitary Island.

Here is Junior!

Have a look at the next three photos of a particular Emperor Angelfish that we see regularly
Little Emperor' has grown from his Juvinile colours to a young adult, with his changes showing on the way!

Look at the change!

The Emperor starts with the juvenile eye on the back of the body (to fool larger predators) and then slowly looses the eye and circles and starts developing stripes!

Here is the young adult!

Emperor angelfish are very rare in this part of the world, we have two adults and hopefully a young adult in the area now. They get up to 400mm in size, and our Local Emperors' have become tolerent to divers that don't hassle them!!

We would like to thank the three photographers' here Steve Daley
Mike Scotland
and our DM Julz!
