Leopard Sharks !

Scientific name: Stegostoma fasciatum

Leopard Sharks or Zebra Shark

locally we call them Leopard Sharks, but they are listed in many books and descriptions as Zebra Sharks. The shark has a profile of nurse type sharks (Not Grey Nurse that is) which are bottom dwelling type animals and are able to sleep and sit motionless on the bottom. The leopard shark has a boney type mouth without teeth.
The Leopard shark is not seen very often here, the leopards are warm water animals and only appear during our warmer months of February to early April, water temp usually has to be up around 24c or better. This second shot was taken by Vicky on 23 march 2009 on her new camera, thats why it's a bit basic!
