Reef Bannerfish


Scientific name: Heniochus acuminatus

Bannerfish are a very pretty fish with the long white dorsal fin.
They are often seen as adults in pairs, and as juviniles they are usually in schools. The Reef Bannerfish are sometimes mistaken for the Morish Idol, but have distinct differences. The bannerfish are usually a bigger fish, the adult is generally much bigger. The bannerfish also has a sooty sort of marking on the nose whereas the Moorish Idol has a definite yellow rimmed black saddle on it's nose
