We hope you all have been enjoying these beautiful months of Autumn and have been experiencing some great diving. We have! Winter is a great time of the year for diving, so if you havn't dived in a while dust off your gear and come out for some fun at the Solitary Islands has been unreal!
Local Conditions and News...
When the weather has been right, we have had great diving conditions at the Solitary Islands! The water temp is now sitting at a 21/22C and has been consistantly beautiful and blue! June and July are known to be months of the year where we notice a change in types of marine species at the Solitary Islands. Already we have seen the amazing Giant Cuttlefish and the Grey Nurse Sharks have started to make their way back around to the Cleaner Station and Shark Gutter moorings. We had around 20 Nurses at Manta Arch the other day!If you have been looking at our Dive reports lately you would have realised the changes we've made. We have modified our reports to give you more information regarding water clarity, tempereture, surface conditions, and a brief newsflash on what impressed us the most on our day out diving. We update these details after every day of diving!
WHALE WATCHING
The Humpback Whales are here!

Whale Watching has become a adrenalin adventure with our new boat "Wild Fin". We are offering a "fun, fast ride" out to the whales and back with most of the trip time quietly with them. Our trips are typically 11/2 hours which is as much time as you need to see the whales, and short enough to avoid sea sickness. So bring your friends out for a adventure ride and enjoy the action

Flying direct from Brisbane, you are at the "Coolidge" in no time, diving the biggest shore dive wreck in the world! Andrew is leading this trip, so come along and enjoy great tropical wreck diving with friends!
So many different dives on just one wreck
Starting at the Cargo Holds with all the trucks and jeeps, or the Promenade deck with guns and gas masks littering the decks, you will see how big this boat is, and it gives you a taste for more in the days to come. The history of the wreck becomes facinating as you want to know more about it. As the week goes on, your diving goes further into the Coolidge, visit the iconic "Lady" wall hanging, the Mosaic Fireplace and penetrating though the Engine Room Cut in the side of the boat to the Engine Room.
Even count the colours of the tiles in the Swimming Pool (if you can at 55 mtrs deep!) or Cargo Hold 5 and 6, towards the rear of the wreck, and maybe even the Stern with its COOLIDGE name across the back.
Staying at Deco Stop Lodge
With a lovely view over the Segong channel, the Deco Stop accommodation is either in dorm style rooms of 4 beds and ensuite, to twin share ensuited rooms (at a extra cost of $98 per person for the trip) The trip includes 6 nights and a continental breakfast daily. Espiritu Santo is known as the adventure island with tours to limestone Millenium caves, Champagne beach and the famous Blue Pools as well as village tours and more, for the non-diver.

If you are a diver that has thought you will get there one day. Make that day in 2012 and come with Mike and Deb.Truk Lagoon is accessible from Australia leaving from Cairns, via Guam to Truk. It sounds a long way, but is really just an overnight flight. We are planning to stay in twin share accommodation at Blue Lagoon Resort, a lovely outlook over the islands of Truk.
There is over 30 wrecks to dive
The Wrecks vary greatly from shallow ones with Coral galore, like this picture of Deb on the Fujikawa Maru. It shows the typical soft corals that are growing on the decks and rigging of these wrecks, sometimes, with all the growth of coral, it's hard to pick that it is a wreck!
The deeper wrecks are not hard to dive, it's like diving in a warm swimming pool when in Truk lagoon, so, other than watching no-deco limits, it is no different to shallow wrecks.
The deep ones do hold some fantastic relics though, from Planes and Tanks on the decks of the Nippo and San Francisco Maru to a Bulldozer and Traytops utes in the Hoki Maru. There is quite alot of fishlife on the wrecks, the deep ones usually have patrolling sharks and Pelagics, whilst the shallow ones have lots of colourfull tropicals.
