  • Hi Everyone!

Welcome Back to the new format Jetty Dive newsletter! June 10th 2009

What a horrible time we have had with the weather, Eh! It has been hard for the Dive shop in fact. An all time low in the days we were able to get out diving. Let hope it has all gone and we have flat seas for the winter like the "Good Old Days' The Long Weekend was good weather and the sea is looking cleaner every day, so come out for a dive if you can!

Local Conditions and News... We think our world has changed!

Underwater terrain at the northern end of south solitary islands has indeed changed. It is like someone has cleaned up with a big Vacuum cleaner. Unfortunately the plate type corals have been greatly affected, but it has really changed the look of the Gutters of Cleaner Station and Shark Gutters.
The depth of shark Gutters has increased by at least 3 metes in places! Cleaner station at first glance looked like the cave is filled up, but it is only that you are looking at the cave from 2 mtrs below and it has the entrance higher.
It has been exciting to see new terrain, but sorry to see some coral go. The deeper areas look a bit battered, but still has the corals.

We have seen the first of many Giant Cuttlefish in the last few dives, and all our usual fish are still about, even a few Grey Nurse Sharks at Cleaner Station and Shark Gutters. Yet to dive Manta arch after the blow, but we expect a heap of Grey Nurse sharks are there.
Check out our Dive Reports for the current conditions!

    UEPI SOLOMON ISLANDS ...Trip report!!

    Main dining hall

This was probably our best trip.. ever!

The Trip to Uepi Island started in horrors when we arrived at Honiara, capital of the Solomons, with only 4 of 20 bags! The small plane trip to Seghe airstrip was not a happy one. Once at Uepi, we settled down, with our hosts providing us with equipment to do our diving, and even some clothes! 4 dives had been done and all were very happy and enjoying the holiday when the gear arrived a day later.

Uepi was a paradise for all, everyone in the group enjoyed each others' company and the diving and snorkelling was outstanding. Everything from Reef and Hammerhead sharks to pigmy seahorses, all in 30c water temp and up to 30 mtr vis. The resort was a real fantastic location which topped it all off. We were all sad to leave, an experience never to be forgotten. As organizers, we thank all of our group, they were great company.

Plans are already being made for another trip back to Uepi, next July 2010, during school holidays time. Only 8 places available due to the holidays, so be quick

Another NEW Overseas Dive Holiday Location MAY 2010

    Ornate Ghostpipefish

    Dumaguete... Philippines 9 Days/7 Nights from $2769

Come to the Philippines island of Negros and stay with us at Atlantis Resort!
This 4 star Resort is a dedicated for Divers with it's own artificial house reef. This reef alone was where I found amazing range of small critters from Lionfish to painted Anglerfish and in one photo I had 5 ornate ghostpipefish! To top it off, in the same one dive, we also saw a rare Flamboyant Cuttlefish.
The Philippines is not known for big fish, but it does boast some amazing schools of Trevally ,Barracuda, Sharks etc, and at Apo Island, lots of Turtles. Snorkelling is also good at Apo Island. The feature of the Philippines, especially Dumaguete, is the unique, rare, little critters you can find on their 28-30c divesites. It is a photographers paradise! The Resort is very well appointed with a massage botique and pool/spa. The resort Bar/Dining has a stunning outlook over the sea, whilst the meals are very good. More details on our Philippines trip webpage.

Have you seen our website lately??

Website special effects..... a bit of fun!

We have recently had a conference with Oceanic Australia, here in Coffs Harbour! The Oceanic team brought to our fine city, all the dealers from around Australia, along with a few guest speakers, including Larry Dague, the boss of "Scubatoys" in Dallas, Texas USA. Larry is real active on website development, and offered new ways to attract business to our doors. We were lucky enough to have Larry and his partner Kim, stay on in Coffs and help (a bit more) with our website.

Having a bit of fun, but more importantly making our site a bit more unique, we have developed a few different effects on the Home page and wetsuits page so far. So if you haven't seen these effects yet, click on the home page link in the top corner and have a look! (you will need Flash Player installed on your PC)

We have learn't that a website is never finished! So expect to see new things all the time!

Free Shore Dives and $20 Boat Dives - Update

A little update on the Shore Dives, we need some conditions to do them!
As everyone would expect, the weather has not been good for this, but we won't give up, and will let you know when it looks good!

We will also run a single boat dive if the conditions are not suitable for shore diving to a close location (Pig Island or Bullocky Reef) for only $20! (plus gear hire as well). You need to let us know if you want to join us! So far we have only a few on the list, you could miss out if it works out as short notice!

A few new toys coming!! Our New Products section.

    The Best performance Reg
  • We LOVE the lastest regulator from Oceanic! The EOS is real classy!
  • The EOS regulator has impressed us, so much so that we now use them! Try it for yourself.
For a limited time we have a demo model EOS Regulator to Try! Any purchase of the EOS will get extra $100 off the cost of an Oceanic Octopus regulator! This offer finishes end of June 09.
  • The New Pinnacle Vulcan wetsuit
  • Very impressed with this suit, the Cressi "Condor" suits have been great suits, but this new one from Pinnacle (was Paragon) has Merino lining and super comfort with it's stretch neoprene. It features the accross the shoulder Dry zip and double seals on the legs and arms.

The word has it that they will release a cheaper model that will miss a few features, but still be "ultra-dry" around $599 price. So a choice of the top of the range "Vulcan" at a discounted $749.95, or a more "budget" style, that is just around the corner. The New OC1 Computer
  • New Computers from Oceanic as well.
  • The new OC 1 personal dive computer is about to be released by Oceanic in the coming months. This wristwatch size computer with a dot matrix display will have new functions, like digital compass and Buddy air check. Along with this is a updated version of the Atom (being the Atom 3) is coming as well as new styles on the Veo range.
The Dollar is rising, some products are getting cheaper...
The manufacturers are a bit nervous about reducing the prices again, but we are seeing some products come down in price again because the rising dollar is making it cheaper to import into the country. So if you are looking to buy some gear, talk it over with us and we can advise you what is happenning.

That's all Folks! Hope you like it.

    Signed
