  • Hi Everyone!

Welcome Again to the new format Jetty Dive newsletter! November 2nd 2009

Well bring on Summer! After a lack lustre Winter and reasonable Spring so far, we have had an early start to summer with some warm weather already, Yay!

Diving at the Solitarys has been OK, but nothing outstanding with the visibility. Averaging around the 12 metres, it has been down to 18c, right now we have had a 20 metre vis day with 19c temp and then a 8 metre day vis day with 20c temp.
Plenty of Grey Nurse Sharks about still, starting to see them in a lot of different places. The Turtles have been active this year too. 'Barney' the big loggerhead, just keeps hanging around with us divers a lot!

Hope you enjoy reading our latest News!

    Local Conditions and News...

If you haven't been out for awhile, the seasons underwater is just changing to summer fish. A large mixture of baby tropicals are appearing, but we are still blessed with our Grey Nurse Sharks. In fact, it very common to see them around the whole of the Northern side of South Solitary. We saw two around Buchanan's wall area the other day too.
After the destruction caused by the big seas earlier this year, it is comforting to see the return of some macro life too. Nudibranchs are all over the place again and we have noted a few new varieties we haven't seen before.
Check out our Dive Reports for the current conditions, we update them every day of diving !

Trip Report from our last OVERSEAS TRIP!

TRUK LAGOON ....It really is the best wreck diving in the world!!

11 divers conquered the best wrecks of Truk Lagoon

Dive report from our recent trip in Oct.

Deb on the Fujikawa Maru Mike and Deb enjoyed the company of friends, to lead another trip to Truk lagoon. "Amazing diving", "wonderful wrecks", "fantastic coral growth" were just a few comments from the group.

Truk Lagoon is not straight forward to get to, three air flights, to reach there takes some effort, but it was all worth it when we got there. Staying at Blue Lagoon Resort was comfortable, not without a couple of maintainence issues, but good for a third world country like Truk. The facilities and meals were reasonable and very well priced too. We were lucky to have the aussie dollar up high against the local US dollar currency too.

We really did find that it is important to have previous experience at Truk Lagoon. Also staying at Blue Lagoon was another group, who had not been there before and did not get the chance to choose their wrecks to see. Ultimately, there are lots of wrecks, some better than others, our previous experience meant that the local guides let us choose the wrecks we wanted!
From lovely soft corals on the Fujikawa Maru to tanks on the San Francisco Maru and a skull in the engine room of the Yamagiri Maru, all the dives were great. Perhaps if we could have done anything different, we should have stayed longer!

With so many palces to dive in the world, Mike and Deb thought that this trip, being their third would be the last to Truk, but after going there again, and loving it, they have planned another for 2012. So if you want to go to see and dive the best wrecks, just let us know and we will put you on the list.
Some Little pics from our last trip are on the sidebar, click them to get a bigger shot!
