Buchanan's WallWhere Divers are Divers and clownfish are big and mean!Buchanan's Wall is located on the South Western side of South Solitary Island. It again has a very easily navigatable feature, the wall itself!Buchanan's Wall starts in 12 metres of water right next to the mooring. It then follows down the sloping bottom to a maximum of 30 metres deep spanning south-west out from South Solitary Island. The wall itself varies in height from 1 to 3 metres. The area on the lower side is sheltered from surges from large swell, allowing it to become covered in some areas with Anemones and associated Clownfish. These clownfish have established themselves for a long time, and are quite large (for clownfish). They are very protective of their turf, and you would swear they have Boxing Gloves on when they come out to greet you! In actual fact they are not greeting you, they are coming to scare you away, be careful with your buoyancy and don't get too close, they have been known to nip a finger or two, I laughed one day when I saw one nip, and draw blood, a divers on the ear, when he got too close! The area is well known for it's macro life of Nudibranchs and small fish, be sure you inspect the wall all over, lionfish are common too. What you'll see at Buchanan's Wall..
Hazards or DangersCurrents: No current usually, an ideal site for the first dive in the area, as it is an easy dive.Be careful with your depth when crusing down the wall, it is very easy to be deep before you know it in this area! Buchanan's Wall is usually the choice mooring in days with North easterly sea breezes, because is allows for protection behind the island, but be careful with Southerly swells, the swell can run along the island thru this site We are constantly updating, so watch these spaces!
