Truk Lagoon Wreck Dive overseas trip
Living WWII history!
Wow! Another great trip to Truk in October 09.. just ask the crew that went..
We think it is the best warm water (30c) wreck diving in the Pacific, no, the world! 60 WWII japanese wrecks are there, amazing corals and marine life. The group of 11 divers spent 6 days diving some amazing wrecks, and all had a ball.
This picture of Deb is on the Fujikawa Maru, and shows the typical soft corals that are growing on the decks of these wrecks, sometimes, with all the growth of coral, it's hard to pick that it is a wreck!
Mike and Deb led the trip again. Mike was quoted to say that it was his last trip (being his third time there), before they went, but now says that he will go back again in 2012!
The 11 dives we did were all on the "Maru", japanese merchant ships, which are far more interesting than warships. They are very open, allowing you to see what they went down with. Some of the wrecks allowed fantastic penetration into engine rooms and large holds that were fantastic.
It is worth noting that there is over 30 wrecks to dive, and prior experience is important if you want to dive the good wrecks. We saw first hand a group of divers from another Dive centre diving some of the less interesting wrecks, whilst we enjoyed the best wrecks. The local guides are great, and trust us to make the call on which wreck we dive, unlike those divers that are new to them.
The resort is great, only minutes away from the dive sites (no need for liveaboards). Meals are good, and reasonably priced.
Some of the easiest dives we've done
The diving is so easy, all guided by local Divemasters, there is no currents, no hard swimming and great short boat rides.
If you are after world class WRECK diving you can't miss this trip. Or if you are a WWII history buff - this trip also will hold a special memory for you for the rest of your life.
If you think you want to go in 2012, let us know and we will make sure we keep in touch about it
